DESCRIPTION:The Public Media Foundation (PMF) was created in 1979 by a group of Massachusetts artists, radio producers, and scholars, to produce educational radio programming for national and international broadcast. Its programs have been carried by National Public Radio and the BBC and have won Silver and Bronze Medals from the New York International Festival’s Radio Awards.
In 1998 PMF received a major grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to develop a distance learning program on the Internet based on the curriculum applications of “Scribbling Women,” a collection of 10 half-hour dramatizations of classic short stories by American women writers (www.scribblingwomen.org). Eighteen dramatizations have been completed, and six of these can be heard on RealAudio on the website, which now receives an average of a half-million hits each month.
PMF applied to the Catalogue to explore the potential of personal philanthropy to help strengthen the offerings on its web site. Catalogue readers, over to you. (2000: CULTURE: Education: Informal: General)
