The Sharing Foundation
Dr. Nancy Hendrie, a retired Concord pediatrician supported by other dedicated volunteers, is still helping children grow; in this chapter of her life however, the children live in Cambodian villages. She initially intended to help U.S. families adopt children in China and Cambodia, but she quickly discovered that for her, the more compelling issue was “the many thousands of children growing up in Cambodia without schools, medical care, clean water or enough caring.” So the Foundation chose to focus on a single village (Roteang — with projects also in Kandal and Kampong Speu), and in consultation with community leaders, launched: an orphanage, caring for 60 abandoned children (many with special needs); a Montessori-based preschool at the orphanage; English classes for 500 students; a Khmer literacy school for 120 children and a farm project for their indigent parents; first-time immunizations for 1,250 children; clean water for the entire village; intensive medical treatment in Bangkok or abroad for seven children; 40 high school scholarships; renovated public schools, including a library, playground and arts program, and more. Dr. Hendrie meticulously oversees every expenditure in Cambodia, to ensure optimal value. You can join this “private initiative for public good, focusing on quality of life.”
