Cape Cod Repertory Theatre Company, Inc. d/b/a Cape Rep Theatre
Cape Rep Theatre was founded as an amateur company
in 1986, and incorporated in 1991. In 1994 the
Commonwealth granted them a long-term lease of
Camp Monomoy—several structures with land in
Nickerson State Park. This transformed the company
and its future. They created a 135-seat indoor theatre
for a 5-play season from May-November, and a
200-seat outdoor summer children’s theatre to supplement
their usual all-summer musical revue at the Old
Sea Pines Inn. Their yearly audience quadrupled to
over 14,000, 4,000 of whom attended the children’s
theatre; their training program in the technical arts for
local high school and college students has expanded,
so the Company now includes 200 professionals and
150 volunteers. CRT is known for producing big
plays with big stories, big casts, and big sets, as well as
local plays such as a series of musical productions for
the bicentennials of Orleans, Eastham and Brewster.
In the grand tradition of summer stock, they often
work with visiting artists. CRT is now entering
Phase Three of its capital development plan, that will
renovate the 1888 Crosby Cape House for rehearsal
space and guest artists’ housing. You can be a part
of this exciting effort to build an important cultural
presence on the Cape.
