IN THE SPIRIT of Thanksgiving, I write about "Giving Massachusetts
Day," established by gubernatorial proclamation in 2002. Tomorrow will
serve as a day for citizens to celebrate our philanthropic past and
reflect on how we can enhance the quality of life of our fellow
citizens through giving.
The Pilgrims' first winter in Plymouth Colony was a desperate time,
but they persevered because they came together as a community to
support one another. As you and your family are enjoying Thanksgiving
dinner leftovers, I ask you to reflect on the Pilgrim story and talk
about the charitable organizations you have supported in the past,
consider supporting new and worthy organizations this year with a
donation of money, time, or resources, and recognize just how
important it is to share what you have with others.
