How can we support children in cancer and hematology wards in hospitals? Give them a reward for their courage – to show them that they are not alone and that their struggle will be rewarded. The Box of Courage program has existed since 2012 and still helps children who are undergoing long and difficult treatment at Children’s Clinical Hospital in oncology departments (hematology and surgery).
HOW DOES THE BOX OF COURAGE PROGRAM WORK?
In the wards there are special boxes – “Boxes of Courage”. When your baby has undergone a painful procedure, he/she takes one of the toys at random, as a reward for bravery and patience. If the toys run out, we say that the fairies and wizards have now flown to another children’s hospital, but will soon come back to us and refill the “Box.
